NOTES: Gautier Desvignes has transformed his humble family domaine into a leading Côte Chalonnaise source. This classic Givry marries bold, inky pinot fruit with a remarkably classy and elegant shape. Treat this like a Côte d’Or red Burgundy.

2. Boursot Bourgogne rouge 2022

NOTES: The Boursot Brothers’ red Burgundies from in and around Chambolle are full of character and stuffing. They match rustic intensity with classy, Burgundian elegance. From a warm dry vintage but one with reasonable alcohol, this entry-level wine is mouthfilling and delicious.
FOOD: Serve with steak-frites or other hearty french bistro fare like french onion soup or stew.

3. Joncuas Vacqueyras 2022
GRAPE: 85% grenache with the rest mourvedre and cinsault
TYPE: Southern Rhone blend from the hills east of Chateauneuf-du-Pape
YEAR: 2022, hot and dry
NOTES: Joncuas is an old-school producer making delicious, expressive, biodynamic reds in the Southern Rhone. Their Vacqueyras bursts from the glass with notes of wild strawberry fruit, plums, lavender, bay leaf and earth. It’s rustic and traditional but with polish.
FOOD: Serve with any rustic wintery fare, including a book by the fireplace
