The HIll of Corton lies to the north of the City of Beaune, at the northern end of the Cote de Beaune. It has the Cote de Beaune’s only vineyards with Grand Cru red (Corton), and one of two producing Grand Cru white (Corton-Charlemagne). The Ravaut family has been making wine in this corner of the Cote d’Or for generations, selling mostly to a regular clientele.
We import the Ravauts’ Grand Cru red from Corton Bressandes, regarded by many as the very best of the Corton Grand Crus. Their Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne white is as fine as its pedigree suggests; what is not as well known is the superb quality of nearby white wine vineyards bearing the appellation Ladoix. These whites have been called “Baby Corton Charlemagne” with good reason. The Bourgogne blanc has its own charm, and offers an excellent value.
The Ravauts offer a wide range of red wines at the village and premier cru levels as well: Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix “Clos Royer and “Carrieres;” Ladoix 1er cru; and Cote de Nuits Villages. These are sturdy wines, and the premier crus often require some cellar time, but the winemaking is exemplary.
