Malmont Séguret Petit Rouge 2020
Grown high in the hills above Séguret in the Southern Rhône, the Malmont vines struggle though rock-laden nutrient-poor soils, slowing their maturation. The west-facing hillside at 1200 feet of elevation enjoys plentiful breezes throughout the growing season, keeping the grapes cool and healthy. The resulting wines are almost an anomaly in the modern Rhône Valley: organic, delicious southern red blends that barely hit 13.5% alcohol.
Malmont’s 2020 Séguret “Petit Rouge” is syrah-heavy this year, fully 85% of the blend. The nose is dark, floral and delicious with violets and a hint of black pepper. The mouth carries Malmont’s signature freshness, with fine tannins and an excellent balance.
