Jean-Louis Tribouley practices organic farming, biodynamics, and low intervention. His property is high in the hills of the Roussillon, a remote winemaking area near France’s border with Spain. The vines grow on schist and gneiss/granite, and range from 40 to 70 years old.
“Elepolypossum” 2020 is all Carignan. The fruit is darker than in Copines and there’s a bit more body, but the wine is neither heavy nor highly extracted. Instead it offers a pleasant lift, and as the French often put it, “one glass calls for the next.” There’s plenty going on in the glass: some notes of garrigue, pepper and leather blended with lovely dark fruit.
