APRIL 2025 CLUB REDS

1. Desvignes Givry Champ la Dame 2022
GRAPE: 100% Pinot Noir
TYPE: Red Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnaise
YEAR: 2022, warm and generous vintage
NOTES: Gautier’s village-level 2022 Givry “Champ la Dame” is a punchy, characterful, flat out delicious red Burgundy. It bursts with dark Pinot fruit, friendly tannins, and a sturdy core. This wouldn’t be out of place in the Côte d’Or, and with a humble appellation like Givry on the label, it provides tremendous value.
FOOD: Roast chicken with herbs
AVAILABLE: $36/bot ($28.8 with discount)

2. Michel Gros Hautes-Côtes de Nuits “Fontaine-St-Martin” 22
GRAPE: 100% Pinot Noir
TYPE: Red Burgundy from near the Côtes de Nuits
YEAR: 2022, rich and sunny
NOTES: The Fontaine St. Martin cuvée comes from a territory with the same soils and subsoils as the famous Hill of Corton in the Côte d’Or proper to the south. This is more serious wine, requiring more time to round out and drink well than the others from the Hautes Côtes de Nuits. Neal Martin found “plenty of brambly red fruit on the nose” and “commendable purity.” He thought today’s “muscular” finish would ebb with time in the bottle.
FOOD: Duck breast with cherry sauce
AVAILABLE: $42/bot ($33.6 with discount

3. Sanzay Saumur-Champigny “Dares” 22
GRAPE: 100% Cabernet Franc
TYPE: Organic red from the central Loire Valley
YEAR: 2022, ripe and concentrated vintage
NOTES: Drawn from a single plot of 65+ year old cabernet franc, this is an impressive wine. The nose is very fine and detailed, with a distinct note of honeysuckle over the red apple fruits and violet petals. The mouth is fine grained and concentrated with perfectly balanced tannin and a clean, dry finish. Decant for a half hour.
FOOD: Grilled lamb with rosemary
AVAILABLE: $32/bot ($25.6 with discount)
