Jasper Morris MW calls Cyril Gautheron “a superb producer making wines in a crisp cool classically Chablis style.” The 2024 vintage provides a ringing affirmation of this praise: steely, dry wines full of tension and elegance, and a beautiful showcase for Cyril’s skills and the subtleties of Chablis terroir.Gautheron’s Chablis “Cuvée Emeraude” offers bone-dry clarity and precision, with pure lemon fruit that stretches out across the palate and finishes very clean. Jasper Morris called it “a bundle of white stone energy,” praising its “fresh and dynamic approach,” its “remarkably long finish,” and its “distinguished nose.” He awarded it five stars and predicted a rating of 90 to 93 points. Its fruit is pure, clean lemon and lime. The Kimmeridgian limestone soils in which the 30-40 year old vines grow deliver a mineral line to complement the fruit and add a finish of mouth watering salinity. Less (-) Free US Shipping | $35

They are thoughtful and focused, using biodynamic techniques in the cellar and sheep to graze the grass between their vines. Their wines combine crisp refreshment with real personality, expressing the distinctive terroirs of Sancerre with precision, energy, and remarkable consistency.Alliance is a blend of three terroirs — clay, limestone, and flint. This is everything you want from Sancerre: splashes of perfectly ripe fruit, including grapefruit, pear, and lime, over a chiseled mineral core bursting with chalk and stones. Crisp, refreshing, and dry, it is a weeknight staple at our house and makes a perfect house white for the table. Less (-) Free US Shipping | $32

The Godon-Reverdys produce superb Sancerre at a variety of price points, and their wines are among the most popular in our portfolio. This cuvée used to be called "Infidele," but is now “Silex” -- it comes from a small parcel laden with flint, whose characteristic aromas include a touch of gunflint smokiness. This wine has always offered extraordinary density and a sumptuous mouthfeel, and that is a feature of the 2023 vintage as well. Less (-) Free US Shipping | $45

The Godon-Reverdys produce superb Sancerre at a variety of price points, and their wines are among the most popular in our portfolio.Bouffants is a limestone laden terroir, and from it the wine draws its deep mineral intensity. The vines in Bouffants have an average age of 40 years, and so it’s a more serious wine than the regular cuvée, with stony fruit that lingers long on the palate. Less (-) Free US Shipping | $36

They’re certified organic, and in fact use many biodynamic treatments they find useful, as well as a team of sheep to keep grasses down and soil fertilized. Their wines are classic Sancerre, and among the most popular in the store.Alliance ‘24 offers beautiful sauvignon fruit with aromatic overlays of grapefruit and some orchard fruit, perhaps white peach. Alliance is generous for a Sancerre, but in the mouth there’s a spine of freshness that keeps the wine bright enough through the palate. It is classic and delicious. Caroline Lestimé, winemaker at the Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard, has made wine in Chassagne for 40 years, and is a master of its terroir. Her whites are extraordinary and legendary, but her reds are quietly brilliant as well. The Santenay 1er cru Tavannes is just over the Chassagne border, and produces dark, brooding, delicious reds that sport Caroline’s signature polish and class. Jasper Morris awarded 94 pts, finding “Lovely fresh purple, fine and classy ... good grip at the back, and fine length.” Less (-) Free US Shipping | $85 |
