The vines for this cuvée are part of Cheron’s family heritage – his grandfather bought them from Comte Ligier Belair in 1930, and with a smile he told us of enjoying bottles on Sundays with his father growing up. Allen Meadows (Burghound) awarded 92-95 points, finding a complex aromatic profile: “Ripe and fresh aromas of red and black cherry, plum and earth display a top note of kirsch.” He praised its “outstanding power,” and called it “definitely built to age.” Jasper Morris awarded the same score. It was vinified with 25% whole bunches, making a wine that is bigger than one often finds in Chambolle. Look for classic Chambolle silkiness, with a spiced nose and outstanding length. Philippe brings a gifted winemaking technique developed through decades of experience, and has added superb family parcels to the Domaine’s range.Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru Les Feusselottes is indeed special, with more weight and concentration than village-level wines. A bright and quite deep purple, with greater density of raspberry, a solid weight of fruit across the palate, with firmer tannins behind. This is extremely refined this year, with an almost Morey-St-Denis-like detail and lacey elegance. Today they farm 25 hectares across nearly every corner of the Côte de Nuits. Their Chambolle-Musigny comes from the village-level Clos de l’Orme vineyard. This is every bit a Chambolle, with a silky dried-flower perfume that unfurls from the glass with grace and poise. The mouth is fine-grained and smooth, with faint notes of stems and violets.
