"Production of Robert's 2018 Cornas Pur Noir will be either one or two barrels, sourced from a tiny parcel next to Champelrose and La Fontaine. Full-bodied and dense yet not over-extracted or overripe, both barrels I tasted from showed an impressive degree of elegance, potent plum and cassis flavors and tremendous finishes. One barrel had more licorice, the other was more floral and minty." Less (-) Free US Shipping | ||

"The thing that impressed us most was also the hardest to pin down. Put simply, these glasses make you pause -- their featherweight delicacy compels attention. Not every wine requires such contemplation, but for those that do, a tool like this is indispensable."

From the warmest, driest year in recent memory, winemakers managed to coax vibrant and beautifully balanced, sporting low alcohol and classic Burgundian finesse. Philippe Cheron is an excellent winemaker farming 10 hectares around the Côte de Nuits -- limited oak, whole clusters where needed, sleek, modern, terroir-transparent, muscled Burgundies.
La Romanée finds bedrock quickly below its shallow surface soils, and this makes for elegant, long-lived bottles. In 2022 it has a beautifully expressive nose supported by well rounded tannins. Morris called it “lifted and charming, not especially Gevrey in character, tasting more like a Chambolle-Vosne mix.” There is truth in this, and that may be why we love the wine so much: beautiful fruit, superb length, and the promise of a long life. The ripe and lightly mineral inflected medium weight flavors possess a velvety mouth feel as well as fine volume, all wrapped in a very solidly complex, balanced and lingering finish where a touch of wood resurfaces.
